2021 marks the 40th Anniversary of the 1981 Hungerstrike, a seminal moment in the struggle for National Liberation and Socialist Revolution in Ireland.
In 1981, 10 Republican Soldiers, Volunteers of the IRA and INLA gave their lives on Hungerstrike fighting British attempts to criminalise the cause of Irish Freedom.
Throughout this year Irish Socialist Republicans will organise a range of events to commemorate the courage and sacrifice of the Hungerstrikers. We urge all Republicans to join us in a Broad Front to honour the struggle inside and outside the H-Blocks 40 years ago Committees are being organised, events are being planned across Ireland. Play your part and get involved. Full details will be released in the coming weeks.
As the first step in that process, Anti Imperialist Action Ireland have produced the design below, which will hit the streets across Ireland as a poster and sticker in the coming weeks.
The poster is designed to be displayed in working class communities and homes across Ireland to honour the Hungerstrikers but also to continue to build support for National Liberation and Socialist Revolution.
The cause for which the Hungerstrikers gave their lives for remains unfinished. It’s up to a new generation to continue the fight.
In the words of Volunteer Bobby Sands, ‘I may die, but the Republic of 1916 will never die. Onward to the Republic and the Liberation of our People.’
