1916 Rising and Ireland’s ongoing fight for freedom Celebrated in Dublin

On Sunday April 20 Revolutionary Irish Socialist Republicans from across Ireland gathered in Dublin to mark the 109th Anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

Led by a 15 strong Socialist Republican Colour Party the crowd of upwards of 150 participants made its way to the Irish Citizen Army plot in Glasnevin Cemetery.

The parade was monitored by both the Garda Special Branch and uniformed members of the force, but due to the large crowd the Free State Police kept their distance.

The Republican Activists were joined by international comrades from countries including Britain, Norway, Germany and Turkey demonstrating international support for the Irish Struggle for National Liberation.

At Cross Guns Bridge the parade came to a stop and a flare was defiantly lit in honour of all who have given their lives for Irish Freedom and to male clear that Irish Socialist Republicans will continue the fight for the Republic of 1916 by any means necessary, until victory.

Proceedings at the Republican Monument in the St Pauls section of Glasnevin began with a reading of the 1916 Proclamation. This was followed by a statement read on behalf of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Solidarity with Anti Imperialist Action Ireland. The event continued with a rendition of ‘Where Oh Where is Our James Connolly’ before a reading of ‘for the Citizen Army’ by James Connolly.

A minute’s silence was then held for the men and women of every generation who have fought and died for Irish Freedom as the socialist Republican Colour Party lowered the flags in tribute.

A rendition of the rousing Republican Ballad Erin go Bragh was then delivered to the crowd before the Easter Statement on behalf of the leadership  Revolutionary Socialist Republican Movement was read to those in attendance.

The event was brought to a close by a stirring rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann.

Those in attendance left with a recommitment to continue the struggle for Freedom and Socialism in Ireland without fear or interruption. Many of those in attendance remarked on the inspiring sight that the overwhelming majority of the crowd were between 18-30 which shows the continued draw of militant Socialist Republicanism and putting our Revolution firmly in the hands of a new generation.

As the marchers left, the prophetic words of Padraig Pearse and James Connolly rang through Glasnevin that ‘Ireland Unfree Shall Never be at Peace’ and that ‘The Fight Must Go On’
