A spokesperson for the Socialist Republican Organisation, Anti Imperialist Action Ireland has confirmed the group intend to strongly resist Free State Plans to sell off the general post office in Dublin.
The spokesperson said, ‘The plans by the Free State to sell off the GPO for ‘Multi Purpose Use’ is an insult to the Irish People and a desecration of the memory of Ireland’s Patriot Dead.
‘The GPO is the birthplace of the 32 County All Ireland Republic, Proclaimed in 1916. It is a National Monument to not only Republican across Ireland but the Irish People no matter where they find themselves. The GPO should become a national 1916 and revolutionary muesum incorporating the Moore Street Battleground and Moore Terrace, a place that our ongoing fight for Freedom can be learned about and celebrated, and where our martyred dead can be honoured and respected. ‘
The spokesperson continued, ‘that the Free State Administration intends to sell it off to the highest bidder in the capitalist pursuit of profit, shows just how much the criminals in Leinster House remain subservient to Britain and International Imperialism. We are confined however that their shameful plans will be prevented by the Irish People just like the wall of shame in Glasnevin and their plans to commemorate the Black and Tans before.
The spokesperson concluded, Anti Imperialist Action Ireland intend to strongly resist any attempts to sell off or commercialise the GPO. We will defend our national monument, our revolutionary history, the memory of our martyred dead and the Republican Principles of our ongoing fight for Freedom. We will accept nothing less than a National Museum at the GPO and Moore St and will resist all other plans. We call on all other Republicans and the Irish People, to take a stand in defence of the GPO now. Like the defence of 16 Moore St in 2016, this must be a People’s campaign to defend and protect our Revolutionary History! ‘
Ireland’s History is not for Sale!
Defend the GPO!
