Anti-Imperialist Action Ireland welcomes the long overdue release of Lebanese revolutionary Georges Abdallah. We extend our warm solidarity and congratulations to him and his family, and hope that they can now be reunited.
The release of comrade Abdallah is a victory for the revolutionary Palestine solidarity movement internationally. Imprisoned for over forty years in France for the alleged assassinations of a CIA agent and a Mossad agent, he is among the longest held political prisoners in the world. The zionists and their US masters have been pushing the French authorities to hold him even longer, but the campaign for the freedom of Georges Abdallah has prevailed and emerged victorious. The imperialists fear him as an enduring symbol of resistance and steadfastness. Despite everything, they have failed to break him or the cause for which he fought.
While welcoming this fantastic news, we also renew our call for the freedom of other revolutionary prisoners. In particular we highlight the cases of comrade Ahmad Sa’adat — imprisoned General Secretary of our fraternal comrades the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine — and of Daniella Klette — German anti-imperialist revolutionary and alleged member of the Red Army Faction. The prisoners’ struggle has always been a core plank of the fight against imperialism, and all genuine revolutionaries should stand with them.
