Over the past week, Members of Anti Imperialist Action and Macradh ISR Youth in Dublin have been engaged in a Boycott Zionist Goods campaign encouraging the public not to buy Zionist goods.
The campaign is taking the form of a weekly Boycott stall where leaflets explaining the Boycott Campaign are distributed and shoppers are engaged and told the issues about buying Zionist Goods, and is combined with more direct action in the form of a ‘Shop-In’.
A shop in involves activists going to a shop that sells Zionist Goods, usually a supermarket, and filling trollies and baskets with items from the shop. The items are then brought tho the checkout and rang through, before the activist will hand a leaflet to the cashier and explain that they will not be paying for the goods as the company is supporting the Zionist illegal occupation of Palestine, and the activist will also demand that the company stop stocking and selling Zionist Goods, or face continued protest.
On the street outside, other comrades will engage in chanting to draw the support of passers by, with regular chants including ‘Boycott Zionist Goods’ ‘Free Palestine’ ‘From the River to the sea, Palestine will be Free’ ‘Victory to the Palestinian Resistance and ‘The P, the P, the PFLP’.
Shop-Ins are a simple and effective way to demonstrate and generate support for the struggle for National Liberation and Socialist Revolution and have proven successful in forcing Irish retailers to stop stocking Zionist goods. It is also a great opportunity to explain to shoppers why they should not buy Zionist Goods and to workers as to why they should not handle Zionist Goods.
