Socialist Republicans send solidarity and support to the Palestinian resistance who, in recent weeks have stepped up their campaign against the Zionist occupation. At the centre of this has been the Palestinian city of Nablus and a new group called the ‘Lion’s Den’, which emerged following the killing of Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, a prominent resistance fighter from the city, by occupation forces in August 2022.
Lion’s Den is a type of umbrella group, consisting of fighters from several already established resistance groups including Islamic Jihad‘s al-Quds Brigades, Fatah‘s al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Hamas‘ Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine’s Abu Ali Mustapha Brigades. This level of coordination and mutual support is unprecedented in the West Bank and has resulted in several successful attacks against Zionist forces.
Lion’s Den has called for Palestinians across the West Bank to mobilise, confront the Zionist forces and disrupt the soldiers in their attempts to raid several West Bank towns in search of Lion’s Den fighters. In a statement released on the group’s official Telegram channel the group advised Palestinians that the Resistance will defend the people and “do not worry, for the Lions of the Den are with you and among you”. The Palestinian population have responded, confronting the occupation with clashes taking place in several cities across the West Bank.
The reigniting of the Palestinian resistance is a welcome development and proves that while the Zionist occupation continues, new generations of resistance fighters will take the fight to the Zionist regime. Irish Socialist Republicans salute the fighters of the Palestinian resistance in their struggle against imperialism and urge all anti-imperialists to support the Lion’s Den group.
