Irish Socialist Republicans have launched a solidarity fast in support of the demands of the Turkish Revolutionary band Grup Yorum and the Hunger Striking Prisoner Ibrahim Göçek
Over the next ten days members of Anti Imperialist Action Ireland and supporters of the campaign will stage consecutive 24 hour solidarity fasts
Grup Yorum are a revolutionary music band from the Turkish state. They have performed all over the world for the past 35 years.
However they have not been able to perform for the last five years with band members being periodically arrested, beaten and having their instruments confiscated by the Turkish state.
As a result of this one member of the band Helen Bolek, aged only 28 died after death fast of 288 days having survived on water, salt and vitamins.
Mustafa Kocak has died after 297 on death fast. He was demanding a fair trial.
Now Ibrahim Gokcek is over 300 days in death fast. His lawyers are also on prolonged hunger strike.
This solidarity fast is to raise international awareness and pressure and shame the Turkish state into stopping this barbarism.
We encourage other Irish Socialist and Republican groups to take part and to contact Anti Imperialist Action if they want to get involved.
